Our story

Rooted in the highlands. Crafted for the journey.

ULU

What we believe, where we come from

ULU means "to have" in Kyrgyz—not in the sense of possession, but of belonging. We build things that belong to the land they come from and to the people who wear them. Every scarf, every carpet, every jar of honey carries the story of the highlands and the hands that shaped it. We don't make for trends. We make for time.

Journey

How ULU came to be

The search

Years of traveling taught me that less is more, but only when it matters.

The discovery

In the Kyrgyz highlands, I found artisans making things the old way, without compromise.

The commitment

We built ULU to bring their work to people who understand what it means to make well.

The present

Every piece we offer carries the story of the highlands and the hands that shaped it.

Kyrgyzstan

The land that shapes everything we make

High plateaus where nomadic traditions still live. Mountains that demand respect. A place where craft is not a choice but a way of being.

  • Glacial peaks touch the sky

  • Nomadic heritage woven into daily life

  • Artisans who learned from their ancestors

Makers

Meet the hands

The artisans who shape what we make

Foundation

Direct trade with the highlands

We work directly with artisans, cutting out middlemen. Fair prices, honest relationships, no shortcuts.

Traceability

Know exactly where it comes from

Every piece carries the name of the maker and the story of its origin. Full transparency, always.

Materials

Nothing but what the land provides

Highland wool, plant-based dyes, raw honey, natural felt. No synthetics, no compromises, no exceptions.

Durability

Built to last decades, not seasons

These pieces are made to age well and be worn hard. They improve with time, not diminish.

Voices matter

Those who understand what we build

"These scarves carry the mountain in every thread, and you feel it the moment you wear one."

Elena Vasquez
Textile designer, Berlin

"The honey tastes like the land itself, honest and uncompromised."

Marcus Chen
Chef, Singapore

"A shyrdak is not decoration, it is a conversation with the hands that made it."

Sofia Petrov
